Two ongoing research projects being funded by DBT and DST

(1) Title of the project : Improvement of drug yielding potential of turmeric through in vitro mutagenesis.

(2) Title of the project : Assessment of genetic diversity in the genus Zingiber using different molecular markers and in vitro conservation of some rare and economic important taxa.

(3) Title of the project :“ Biochemical and Molecular characterization of wild and cultivated Ipomea species emphasizing on stress tolerance genotypes. ”

Promotion of research

•  Faculties are recognized as research guide for M Sc Biotech, BTech Biotech, BPharm, MPharm, MPhil, PhD by Utkal University, Berhampur University and SOA University.

•  Special Research labs for ongoing DBT and DST Projects

•  Reimbursement of fees from Govt. bodies like DST, DBT etc.

•  The institute provides facility for training to students of reputed University and 10 trainees have already done their research projects here.

•  7 students have registered for their PhD and is being recognized by the Utkal University and SOA University.

•  One faculty has been awarded with BOYSCAST fellowship to pursue research in USA and also awarded with young scientist programme from DST, Govt. Of India.

EXTENSION

•  R&D activities is going on for production of various herbal products like essential oils, curcumin, oleoresin etc. from various medicinally important plants like Zingiber officinale (Ginger), Zingiber zerumbet, Zingiber rubens, Curcuma longa (Turmeric) , Curcuma aromatic, Curcuma amada, Kaempferia galanga, Kaempferia rotunda, Alpinia galanga, Piper longum (Pipal) etc.

•  Transfer of state of the art technology for the common people.

•  Institute provides facility for pursuing research projects to students of other institutes

•  Students participates in the NSS programme and work for the up gradation of the society

•  Institute provides opportunities for training for interested entrepreneurs

•  Development of well planned herbal garden for conservation of germplasm of rare, endangered and economically important medicinal plants
