Siksha 'O 'Anusandhan which was previously recognised as an educational society under Societies registration Act XXI of 1860 and now has acquired the status of University u/s of the UGC Act-1956 w.e.f. the academic session 2007-2008. It has its prime objectives to promote professional education, Research, Training & Development in Engineering, Management, Computer Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Medical Sciences (viz. MBBS, BDS & Nursing) and Hotel Management etc. to cater to the need of professional manpower of the country. It is one of the so called new born University in Eastern region as well as in the country which has started with professional courses in Under graduate, Post graduate & Research (PhD) level in various multi-disciplinary faculties as mentioned above. Under this University the followings are the constituent institutes:

Institute of Technical Education & Research (ITER) established in 1996-97

Institute of Business & Computer Science (IBCS), established in1998-99

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS), established in 2004-05

School of Hotel Management (SHM), established in 2004-05

Institute of Dental Sciences (IDS), established in 2006-07

Sum Nursing College (SNC), established in 2004-05

Centre of Biotechnology (CBT), established in 2007-2008

Institute of Medical Sciences & SUM Hospital, established in 2003-04

All these constituent institutes have been accorded approval from its respective statutory bodies (councils) viz. AICTE/DCI/PCI/NCI
