As Founder-Director of the Science & Technology Park , he was responsible for promoting new entrepreneurs and also instrumental in diversification of existing industries. He also discharged the duties as the Founder- General Secretary of the Indian STEP Association.
He has served on the Executive Committee of Indian Standards on Small Hydro Power House, Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi . His interaction with industrialists has enabled him to meaningfully contribute towards Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research activities of both the erstwhile Roorkee University and STEP.
He is a fellow of The Institution of Engineers ( India ). As an outstanding engineering personality, he has earned the distinction as a co-opted member of the Executive Committee of the Rajasthan State Centre.
For nearly two and a half decades, (which is a record by itself), he has been the Professor-in-charge of Placement, Training and Industrial Liaison. As Professor in-charge of Placement at IIT Roorkee, he is credited to have held this honorable position with regard to the placement activities much ahead of all other IITs.
He has successfully developed and executed many innovative programmes in entrepreneurship development, renewable energy sources and other disciplines of engineering and science. He has designed and organized Mass Employment Generation Programme through Science & Technology (MEGSAT) and training of multi-purpose mechanics of rural population.
His organizational skills have found him at the helm of affairs at several national workshops/seminars and conferences. He has been the National Co-coordinator of a sub-committee of the National Programme of HRD in IT, on Promoting Institute-Industry-Interface. His interest in disseminating information and knowledge has made him the Editor of several news magazines, bulletins, newsletters and reports.
As a Vice Chancellor, MITS, Lakshmangarh, he was academic and administrative head of the Institute which is a deemed University under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Under his leadership MITS made all-round progress specially in terms of placement of its students in reputed companies and improved academic standards.
He was also Director, Mody Institute of Education & Research and is remembered to have initiated considerable expansion of infrastructural facilities in order to strengthen the learning resources.
As a person, Dr. Jain is versatile, unassuming and friendly. Happily married to Saroj, a very affectionate home-maker, the two of them can rightfully be proud of their sons, a doctor, and a Consultant with Accenture Business Consulting, and a daughter who is a software engineer.
